Dymaxion Ships Web Version of Public Access Catalog Module for Medianet
Halifax, Canada -- February 07, 1997 -- Dymaxion Research Ltd. today announced it is shipping the World Wide Web version of its popular Public Access Catalog module for Medianet (TM). Sites using Medianet's web module provide their patrons with a GUI interface for viewing, searching, and ordering media right from the media center's home page. One of the main features of the new web release is "Mediagraphies on Demand", which allows media center patrons to complete title searches with full descriptions, and print their own copy or save to disk.
Targeted at media centers in universities, K-12 districts, public libraries, and commercial distributors, Medianet is an advanced scheduling system for video, equipment and rooms. Medianet uses Digital's AlphaGeneration and VAX systems as a server, and PCs and MACs as clients.
Product demonstrations have been going on this month at the Incite '97 Conference in Albuquerque, N.M., and at the American Library Association '97 Conference in Washington, D.C. Medianet's web module may also be test-driven at http://dymaxion.com/medianet (click on OPAC options).
"By offering these latest web features, were ensuring that our media centers are staying on the cutting edge of service without having to increase staff-time," said Dymaxion president Peter Mason. Other features are:
- option to limit by audience, format, or language
- series names, subjects and other versions are all live links
- option to have an unlimited number of predefined media resource guides
- live "shopping cart" concept for picking and ordering titles
